Meanings shift and change with my work, but...

This vibrant and expressive mixed-media piece captures a dynamic interplay between light and darkness, transformation and farewell. The composition is infused with intricate details, layered textures, and striking contrasts that give a sense of movement—perhaps the transition from an unseen force into illumination. The fragmented, multi-eyed figure at the center exudes an intense energy, its form teetering between organic and mechanical, as if caught mid-transformation.

My Dachshund Ziggy, served as the muse for this piece. There’s an undeniable presence of personality and spirit in the composition. The sharp, angular shapes and the animated expression of the figure suggest a canine-like energy—loyal, inquisitive, yet slightly mischievous. The elongated, expressive snout and sharp teeth add a raw, primal dimension, as if capturing the essence of an animal sensing something beyond human perception.

The title, Goodbye Darkstar (Hello Photons), is deeply poetic, evoking themes of transition and rebirth. Darkstar suggests something fading, perhaps a celestial body moving toward its inevitable dissolution, or metaphorically, the passing of a moment, an era, or a presence. Hello Photons welcomes light, perception, and the quantum essence of existence itself. This interplay between absence and presence—between darkness and light—is visually represented in the painting’s stark contrasts and the omnipresent watchful eye in the upper left, a symbol of awareness or an unseen force guiding the transformation.

The small red and gold square motifs scattered throughout the background resemble data points or constellations, reinforcing the idea of cosmic navigation—perhaps a nod to how energy never truly disappears but shifts into another form. The swirling glyphs and cryptic text surrounding the figure echo a language of transition, a farewell that is both chaotic and beautifully structured.

In essence, Goodbye Darkstar (Hello Photons) is a tribute to movement, to the inevitable shift between states of being. Whether seen as a farewell to something beloved or an embrace of new light, the painting embodies the duality of existence—an emotional yet cosmic dance between what is lost and what remains. Ziggy’s essence feels immortalized here, not as a static memory, but as something still pulsing, shifting, and playfully entwined with the fabric of reality itself.
