Meanings shift and change with my work, but...
This striking mixed-media piece hums with an intricate, almost audible energy, evoking the sensation of an unseen but deeply felt vibrational force. The composition is alive with movement—fractured yet fluid forms seem to coalesce and dissipate, much like the ephemeral harmonics of a dawn chorus, where countless voices merge into a single evolving soundscape. The creature at the forefront, a hybrid of organic and mechanical elements, appears mid-expression—its jagged, expressive mouth and layered eyes suggesting both perception and articulation, as if caught in the act of translating unseen forces into tangible form.
The title, Dawn Chorus (The Sound of Enclosed Particle Systems Expressing Themselves), draws an intriguing parallel between biological and quantum systems. Dawn Chorus traditionally refers to the synchronized song of birds at daybreak—a natural phenomenon where individual entities contribute to a greater harmonic expression. The subtitle, The Sound of Enclosed Particle Systems Expressing Themselves, suggests a quantum analogy: that even at the most fundamental level, particles "sing" their own existence, interacting through waves, fields, and energy exchanges that shape the reality we experience.
The swirling blue background, inscribed with cryptic symbols and fragmented language, resembles both a vast sky at sunrise and the abstract mathematical structures used to describe quantum fields. The presence of numerous scattered eyes reinforces the theme of observation—an echo of quantum mechanics' foundational mystery: does the act of witnessing alter the nature of what is seen? The interplay of vibrant warm tones against the cool, airy blues suggests the emergence of something new—perhaps the formation of meaning itself from a chaotic system of discrete expressions.
This piece operates as a sensory bridge between different modes of expression—between birdsong and wavefunction, between biological rhythms and quantum oscillations. It challenges the viewer to consider: if the cosmos is a vast, enclosed system of interacting particles, does it, too, have a song? And if so, who—or what—is listening? Through its layering of scientific inquiry, existential curiosity, and visceral expression, Dawn Chorus transforms observation into participation, making the viewer a part of the unfolding resonance of the universe itself.
